Cherry Blossom Party

Thursday May 5, 2005

Cherry blossom season is so short and remarkable that most companies offer an afternoon off work for its employees to go party and drink under the trees. These cherry blossom parties are called honami. Since Nova never offers a day off for any occasion, our work honami was held at night in a park near Tokyo Bay in early April. What follows are several low quality pictures, all I was capable of before becoming too drunk to operate the camera.

A Japanese guy from the next honami over plays air guitar in front of the park's statue. Cherry blossom trees are in the background, and the white circles all over the image are petals floating through the air.

My coworker Jeff made friends with a surprisingly muscular Japanese man from another honami nearby. This was taken shortly after the man showed us his biceps. One of the Japanese sales / reception staff from my school is in the foreground. She started the day before the honami and I haven't seen her since.

Jeff climbs the park's statue with help from Narelle's (our supervisor) boyfriend, a teacher at another branch.

A Japanese guy from another honami climbs higher than Jeff did.
