An Apple A Day
Wednesday December 1, 2004
Produce is so expensive in Japan. One stalk of celery for 98 Yen (1 US Dollar)! And it even went up to 150 Yen awhile after I took this picture. Part of the reason it's so expensive is that the numerous natural disasters Japan gamely weathers (typhoons, earthquakes) continually destroy crops, so the prices are driven up for domestic foods or must be imported. The weird thing is that I eat much more produce here than I ever did in Canada. Despite the price, fruit and vegetables are some of the few things I recognize to eat or know how to prepare.
$70!
Do they know the fine art of Kraft Dinner over there? Posted by Mike on December 2, 2004 11:44 AM
Sadly, no. This is why I will gratefully accept all mailed donations of KD. Posted by Lisa on December 3, 2004 01:01 AM
