Mon Oct 24 05 / 4:02 AM Meet Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, one of my students. At 3:40pm under Simultaneous Scientific Session - Adult Cardiac Surgery, you can see him talk about one of the two subjects he always held dear when I taught him. His other favourite subject being Texas, when I worked in Texas, once while I was in Texas, so did I tell you about Texas, as you may know I lived in Texas for a year. I am enthralled in memories. Seeing Shinichi again brought me all the way to a small classroom in Yokohama, and it's not the first time I've felt like I was momentarily transported back. Doing laundry the other day, my arm was suddenly pouring detergent into a washing machine outdoors under Japanese streetlights, a concrete step under my feet and the door to my tiny apartment wide open beside me. Walking to the store with my iPod on, fleetingly feeling like I was on the hill to my Japanese apartment after work, alone but not lonely, purposeful, successful, and content. The dream about running to teach a class moments after returning by plane. So many reminders about that life lately, maybe because I have so few distractions, am so reluctant to start something new. I've been living like I never left, because I never wanted to leave. |
