another night at the Roxbury

Another 4 hours at Barrymore's, another $30, another top-level-table-on-the-left-side meeting with people I used to work with at the bookstore. Tanya took charge, because she's definitely the cooler one, and I found myself in a Bay Street living room filled with musical instruments, smoking poorly rolled joints with half of a Chapters staffroom.

Despite anybody's initial reaction to Tanya, there's a craziness about her that's irresistible, a frenetic warmth that makes everybody want to be with her. But even though I'm usually left laughing along with them all to something I didn't hear, I still don't know if I really want to be that kind of person.

Guys respond because she flirts with them, girls respond because she's into socializing. Even though I don't really want the kind of attention that would make me have 100 people on my blocked list, I wish I were that comfortable with people.

I wish I was cool.
