Tue Feb 24 04 / 9:27 PM James and Renuka came over to my place so we could spend James' last night in Ottawa together. Even though James looked faintly sickened to have to leave his empty apartment for the last time, I know he was happy to be with us and not alone. I wanted a bittersweet final night of bonding, but knew it was not to be without alcohol or the next day off. I went to bed at midnight to sleep the final four hours before going to the airport. When I woke up I discovered Renuka and James had stayed up, gone out for sundaes at one point, and finally ended up on the couch with Renuka asleep while James played with her hair. Renuka had my moment, my perfect long goodbye, and I was intensely jealous and intensely regretful. How did this become about me, when James has to say sayonara to so much more? |
