I have just spent the week in Renfrew, and I can only summarize by saying that it was all too short - the Christmas season, the night at Finnegan's, my temper, the vacation. It's always great to be home, but there is an increasing desperation to make it all perfect for my mom, before she goes away to China, before she goes away. She works so hard, but never has the time for everything she wants to give. And all I do is come home every few months and help catch her up on doing dishes.

A trip home wouldn't be complete without a trip to Finnegan's, either. Jen, Ashley and I finally got together, the first time in over a year. Ashley stayed at Jen's house, and I felt a bit left out between them as I always do; so I got drunker and felt better. My brother was there too and we had simply the best time there we've ever had. It was nostalgia, it was home, it was being part of the crowd I was never allowed to be a part of in high school, and it was fun.

Until karma.

Ashley took the wrong jacket from the unstaffed coat check. He got it to my house without incident. Jen kept quoting "karma, karma". We called Jen and Ashley a cab, and I suggested we meet it near the bar, where we would probably find more cabs waiting. Ashley was suitably nervous, but I was determined to get Ashley's real coat back. I went inside, found his coat, and came back out to find a coatless Ashley lying on the ground with a bloody face. The other coat had been stolen back. But any more nights at Finnegan's were also stolen from me. It might have been bad karma for Ashley to take that coat, but karma takes awhile to come around. It was Lisa brand karma that was biting us all in the ass that night.

Speaking of karma, tonight my tip jar was stolen from me at the Vox. Which way was that karma flowing, I wonder.
